Homemade gifts for my boyfriend?

Posted by admin

Christmas is next month and I’m making my boyfriend a gift. We are leaving the country with our families and visiting South Africa.
Right now I have a box, and so far I printed some pictures we took together, and wrote on the back of them about how I will remember that day and things like on his rugby picture of him and I, I wrote about how I think he is an amazing player and he should continue playing, etc.
I have about twelve of those pictures/ conversations online with writing on the back.
I then have a song that reminds me of him on nice paper that I wrote out, and then a really nice inspirational poem. I also made a heart card with our pictures on it and a poem i wrote for him.
I burnt him a CD as well and then put a couple extra small things in there. I was hoping to fill the box as it is Christmas and he means a lot to me.
Does anyone else have any other ideas other than what I have already done? I would like to add more.
Thank you.
Oh, and I want to buy him something too but I don’t know what to buy him either. So any ideas for what to make would be great, but also to buy as well. :)

If electronic health records are so important, why are they forbidden to show HIV+ status?

Forbidden to show the number of abortions too.

Body Mass Index, however, is required or the doctor does not get paid.

Obama’s Electronic Health Records Czar: HIV Status and Abortions Need Not be Included
Wednesday, July 21, 2010
By Matt Cover, Staff Writer

Dr. David Blumenthal, the Obama administration’s National Coordinator for Health Information Technology, said on Tuesday that patients can choose to omit procedures such as abortions and positive HIV tests from the electronic health records (EHR) that every American is supposed to have by 2014 under the terms of the economic stimulus law that President Barack Obama signed last year.

Blumenthal’s office, a subdivision of the Department of Health and Human Services, was created by the stimulus law specifically to generate the standards and regulations that will govern the federally mandated use of EHRs.

Section 3001 of the stimulus law charges the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology with overseeing the "development of a nationwide health information technology infrastructure that allows for the electronic use and exchange of information" that, among other things, "reduces health care costs resulting from inefficiency, medical errors, inappropriate care, duplicative care, and incomplete information" and "provides appropriate information to help guide medical decisions at the time and place of care."

The law requires Blumenthal’s office to set "specific objectives, milestones, and metrics with respect to the following: (i) The electronic exchange and use of health information and the enterprise integration of such information. (ii) The utilization of an electronic health record for each person in the United States by 2014."

In order to get hospitals, doctors and other health care providers to comply with the creation of EHRs for "each person in the United States by 2014," the stimulus law provided for federal bonus payments to be made to providers who generate records complying with the federal standards by 2014. Health care providers that do not use EHRs that meet the federal standards by 2014 will have their Medicare and Medicaid payments progressively diminished as a penalty for failure to comply.

What sorts of things do 10-14 year old Boys Like?

Posted by admin

I am sending a gift to a 10-14 year old boy for the holidays. I’d like to send several things that all have to fit in a shoe box. What are some good and safe bets for that whole age range? Like I know a 10 year old may still love a toy car, but 14 year old may not.

The child will be from an impovershed country/area like Africa or Bolivia, so please NO money, gift cards, video games, things with instructions in English, etc.. I’m looking for simple toys and gadgets.

Thanks SO SO much

Anglo-Saxon migration into Briton, and beginning of the Old English language.?

Posted by admin

I need some clarification of some things I don’t understand about this period; with these questions, I’m most interested in how they relate to the evolution the the Old English language.

The Roman empire invaded Britain in AD 43 and formed a province they named Britannia and the local celtic people were called Britons: are these Latin names from the Romans, or were Britons what the people called themselves?

During the Roman occupation from AD 43 until their withdraw in the middle 400′s AD, what was the relationship between the Romans and the Britons? Did assimilation occur? Was the Britons’ celtic language greatly influenced by Roman Latin? Did they collaborate themselves to defend and attack the Picts?

During the Roman occupation, what were the Anglo-Saxons doing? Were they making any attacks against the Romans or Britons? Were they trading with either of them? Had they begun settlements in Britain?

HERE’S my real question:
It’s my understanding that historians date the beginnings of Old English to about 450 AD (wikipedia), after the Romans left Britannia, and while the Anglo-Saxon migration is in full swing. During this time, the Britons invited Anglo-Saxon’s as mercenaries to help fight the Picts. Old English is the language the Anglo-Saxon’s spoke in Britain, after emigrating from mainland Europe. What linguistic evolution began to occur at this time to mark the creation of the Old English language? What milestone occured? As I understand it, the A-S’s didn’t adopt much of the Briton’s native celtic language at all, so they’re speaking the same language as they were on mainland Europe. The next linguistic influence wouldn’t occur until the spread Christianity bringing Latin to the A-S’s, which begins to occur is the 700′s, I believe. To what event are historians attributing the birth of Old English? It seems obvious that they’re pegging the start of the A-S immigration to the creation of Old English, but if no linguistic evolution occurred, it just doesn’t seem correct or accurate to do that.

In summary, what milestone occurred to mark the beginning of the Old English language?
My suspicion is that the mixing of the germanic dialects from the Angles, the Saxons, and the Jutes due to their collective immigration to Briton is the answer, but I just don’t know.

Thank you so very much!

This site credits the date of the start of Old English to 450 – 480, saying inscriptions have been discovered written in old english, which would have been written with the runic alphabet.

Only two linguistic evolutions could have occurred to create the beginning of Old English:
1.) The merger of dialects from the different germanic people that immigrated to England. Although their languages were similar, it seems that in England for some reason, they completely merged their languages together to create a new language, Old English.
2.) This is less likely: The merger of the native celtic languages with the germanic languages.
